The directives were issued on Thursday at a follow-up meeting called by Mungantiwar in Mumbai with senior officials of the concerned agencies after a delegation of Yeoor locals and activists approached him. THANE: Minister of forests, Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar, has directed the Thane municipal corporation, police and the forest department to immediately take corrective action against illegal structures and buildings to ensure the ecology of Yeoor and the adjoining forest area remains intact, officials informed. The directives were issued on Thursday at a follow-up meeting called by Mungantiwar in Mumbai with senior officials of the concerned agencies after a delegation of Yeoor locals and activists approached him. The activists apprised the minister of the rampant illegal activities going on in the area that threatened to disturb the ecosystem of the area and wildlife in the adjoining forest due to illegal and rapid urbanisation. "The minister took prompt cognisance of the fact that Yeoor, which, abuts the Sanjay Gandhi National Park is home to many wild animals and birds. To start with, the minister has ordered restriction on visitor movement at Yeoor post 10pm, stepping up vigil and identifying, demolishing illegal buildings, hotels operating without fire safety clearance and stopping all night sport activities," an official present for the meeting said.
