MUMBAI: The BMC has decided to appoint a professional agency to provide search reports of property cards of properties to be auctioned over tax default. The assessment and collection department is in the process of auctioning 67 properties across wards out of the over 2,800 attached for defaulting on property tax. "The agency to be appointed needs to have expertise in accessing search reports for property tax. The search reports are part of revenue records of the state government and search reports can be for a decade or two," said an official of the BMC's tax assessment and collection department. "The search reports are to confirm the ownership title and ensure the ownership details tally with our records. Many of these properties may have been sold multiple times, so it is important we have a clear record. Besides, even within these 67 commercial properties, there are multiple units, which will have individual property cards and a sale history of its own. We don't have the manpower to carry out this search report exercise.
